What is Fulfillment?

Fulfillment (order fulfillment) is an end-to-end service that runs the post‑purchase workflow—capturing orders, storing inventory, picking and packing, and delivering to customers—supported by systems for stock control and order tracking to ensure accurate, on-time delivery.

Why does Fulfillment matter?

A sale isn’t finished until the customer receives the order. Coordinating orders, packing, and carriers takes time and involves many moving parts.

A fulfillment partner absorbs those operational tasks, reduces hidden costs and errors, and gives your team more time to focus on growth—while keeping delivery standards consistent.

How does Fulfillment work?

A typical flow starts from inbound receiving and storage, then pulls orders from sales channels, performs picking/packing, ships out, and handles returns. Key steps include:

1) Inbound receiving
Count and inspect items, apply barcode/SKU labeling, and record inbound events for traceability.
2) Storage
Store by location with lot/expiry information, supporting FIFO to reduce aging and expiry risk.
3) Order management
Automatically ingest orders from marketplaces, websites, or APIs into a single operational queue.
4) Picking
Generate pick lists and guide warehouse locations, validating SKU and quantities for accuracy.
5) Packing
Select the right packaging and protection to reduce damage and control shipping costs.
6) Shipping
Handover to carriers per your rules, generate tracking numbers, and update shipment status.
7) Returns / failed delivery
Receive returned parcels, re-check item condition, and decide restock or quarantine based on your policy.
